If you’ve ever tried to “get your life together” with food by meal prepping on Sunday…
only to abandon it by Wednesday…
you’re not the problem.
The approach is.
For a long time, I thought being consistent with nutrition meant:
cooking everything ahead of time
eating the same meals all week
being super organized with food containers
And if that works for you, that’s great - it does work for A LOT of people.
But for many people (me included), it doesn’t last.
Because real life isn’t that structured.
The shift
I stopped trying to perfectly “meal prep my life”…
and instead started doing 4 things:
Planning my meals ahead, then creating a grocery list to go shopping/place an order
Having prepped proteins available (shredded chicken, cooked ground beef, chicken sausages, etc)
3-5 core meals I could easily default to, and always have those ingredients on hand
Staying stocked with fresh and frozen fruit and veg (I always prefer fresh, but frozen means I never run out/risk them going bad)
Why this works (for me, and perhaps you too)
Having a system like this makes me more prepared for the week, while spreading out the effort. I don’t need to spend 4 hours on Sunday meal planning, grocery shopping, cutting, and cooking breakfast, lunch and dinner.
But even if I do one or two of those tasks, it still makes the rest of my week more efficient.
And of course you do you- you may find that a hybrid method like prepping breakfasts for the week, then just planning lunch and dinners is the sweet spot.
Everyone is different, but once you try, and test, you’ll find out what works best for your routine and lifestyle - like clothes, there is no true ‘one size fits all’
Looking for a place to start?
If you’re new to this, start simple.
Pick 2–3 meals from my Macro Makeover recipes or YouTube videos and build your week around those.
No perfection. No complicated plan. Just a few go-to meals you can actually repeat.
That’s really what consistency comes down to.
This is what I share here every week
I’ll keep breaking things down into:
high protein recipes you can actually make and enjoy
simple nutrition strategies that fit real life
ways to build a more consistent, less stressful approach to eating
Nothing extreme. Nothing rigid. Just realistic food ideas that help you stay on track without overthinking it!
